What is Kurios?

Kurios is a 28 week (7 ½ month) gap year experience for young adults (typically aged 17-22) including a 7-week, immersive cross-cultural experience in Costa Rica. Kurios is about growing young Christian disciples who love Jesus with all their heart and all their soul and all their mind and all their strength, and love others as themselves ultimately leading to a lifetime of enjoying Jesus as Lord over every area of life.

A Daily Rhythm at Kurios

Kurios participants will live in community together both at our “home base” at Gull Lake, Alberta and as we travel. Our daily rhythm of life will start with morning prayer and end with evening prayer. Generally, our mornings are for learning, afternoons for working, and evenings for playing.

Leadership

We will gain the tools we need to lead like Jesus through intentional training and leadership opportunities.

Prayer

We will explore the fullness of what it means to communicate with God and will grow to embrace prayer as a way of living, rather than a task to be carried out.

Maturity

We will grow toward adulthood as we experience guided opportunities for independence and freedom in conjunction with given responsibility.

Relationships

We will be challenged and equipped to develop deep, meaningful, healthy relationships with others.

Scripture

We will develop a love for scripture through reading/memorization/study and gain an understanding of its overall story and themes, while being able to put it in context for today.

Evangelism

We will learn to proclaim the Gospel freely to everyone, so that everyone would declare Jesus their Saviour and Lord.

Church

We will wrestle with what it means to “worship together” globally, locally, and individually; building a model of church centred on what we have to give to, and receive from God.

Identity

We will understand that our identity is centred in being created in the image of God and being “in Christ.” We will discover our unique giftedness, passions and weaknesses.

Authenticity

We will learn that faith is meant to be lived out in every area of life. We will gain a deeper knowledge of what it means to follow Jesus and will have opportunities to live it out in practical ways.

FAQs

Who is Kurios for

Kurios is for 20-25 young women and men (typically age 17-22) who desire to grow as Christian disciples and leaders.

When is Kurios?

Kurios runs for 28 weeks each year from the middle of September until the Middle of April.  There are two terms, each lasting 14 weeks, with a 2 week break in the middle over Christmas and New Year's.

Where is Kurios?

Kurios is all over the place including significant time in BC, AB, SK, MB and Costa Rica.  Home base is in central Alberta occupying two neighbouring camps: Gull Lake Centre and Rehoboth Camp.

What does Kurios cost?

Kurios is committed to a maximum $18,000 fee per participant. Active fundraising is ongoing to lower the per participant fee.

What is included in the cost?

The per participant fee covers all food, housing, curriculum, and travel during the 28 weeks of the Kurios experience (including Costa Rica).  The participant fee does NOT cover costs associated with travel to/from Kurios home base at the beginning and end of each term.

Will I receive academic credit?

No (but maybe?).  Kurios itself is an unaccredited program, however partnerships with Bible colleges are in development that would allow Kurios graduates to continue their education elsewhere while receiving significant entrance credit upon enrollment.

Who leads Kurios?

Kurios is guided by a dedicated staff team. Throughout the experience Kurios participants will interact with countless other teachers, leaders and guides along the way. Get to know the Kurios leadership.
